Workshop in Orange to highlight social media's effect on children's behavior

The Alliance for Prevention & Wellness will host “The Cyber Child: Neurological, Social, & Educational Implications” Workshop from 8 a.m.-noon April 27 at Grassy Hill Country Club in Orange.
Chris Parrott, of Your Self Series, will be the guest speaker.

The workshop will explore the research concerning the effects social media is having both on children’s brains and on their behaviors.

Participants will be exposed to the cyber social reality that pervades children’s lives and how that reality is shaping their still forming identities and social interactions.

The cost to attend the workshop is $25. Continental breakfast is included and continuing education and training credits are available.
The workshop will also feature the 2017 Community Champion Awards.
The awards are given to those in the community who take action and effect change in the field of substance abuse prevention and/or intervention activities.
The awards spotlight and applaud the work that is being done to help prevent substance abuse on the grass-roots, community level - work that is absolutely critical to APW’s efforts to keep our kids safe from alcohol, tobacco, drug use, suicide, risky behaviors, and promote good mental health in the Lower Naugatuck Valley, Greater New Haven, and surrounding communities.
This year’s champions include Teresa Spencer of Derby, Pat Lahaza of Oxford, Allison Kerney of Fairfield, Ethan Stutheit of Shelton, Julia Markarian of Shelton, and Kim and Hope Burrows of Milford.
