'Turnback Tuesday' highlights Derby's 300th celebration parade

Turnback Tuesday brings an image from Derby’s 300th celebration in 1975.

The image was taken during the parade held on June 8, 1975, which started at 1 p.m. on Old New Haven Avenue (Route 34).

It followed its way to Elizabeth Street to Seymour Avenue to Division then Chatfield Streets, ending at Ryan Field. It boasted that the parade was 5 hours long, and the route was approximately 4 miles.

The Redwood East Steak House in the background was owned by Bill Grant. It seems from our research that this restaurant was only open for a short period of time while the celebration of Derby’s 300th was happening.

The main restaurant was located in Shelton.

Griffin Health to hold Par for Pink fundraiser at Oxford Greens

OXFORD - Griffin Health’s Valley Goes Pink initiative will host its 4th Annual Par for Pink golf fundraiser May 20 at The Golf Club at Oxford Greens.

The fundraiser will feature a 9-hole round of golf starting at 9 a.m. and lunch. Proceeds will benefit The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital.

Sponsorship opportunities range from $100 to $5,000, and foursomes start at $460. In-kind donations are welcome.

Seymour Public Library to hold open play group Tuesday

 SEYMOUR - Seymour Public Library is offering play time sessions from 11-11:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, and April 1.

The open play group is for children ages six months to six years old.

The Library is at 46 Church St.
