Food truck fest in Shelton benefits Parent Child Resource Center

My husband, daughter, and I enjoyed our food truck dinner experience Thursday at the Shelton Riverwalk. 
And judging by the crowd and long lines of people waiting to place their orders, we weren't alone. 

I'd venture to say the first-ever Food Trucks in the Valley event was a success! 

And 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the Lower Naugatuck Valley Parent Child Resource Center in Derby.

The band Monster Eats Pilot was one of four bands to rock the crowd.

This boy seemed more interested in playing with light toys than trying out some of the delicious food truck offerings.


Kudos to the Parent Child Resource Center staff and in particular Veronica Parsloe, director of development and marketing, for putting on a wonderful event.

We're looking forward to returning next year!

Bookstore in Shelton to hold Family Day Sunday

SHELTON - Family Day will be held Sunday at Written Words Bookstore, 482 River Road.

The event is co-hosted by The Giggling Pig, an art studio located next door.

There will be an impromptu story time and other hands-on activities for children.

My friend Evie North of Derby, creator of those wonderful Shapels, will be one of eight authors there signing books.

New disaster trailer will be stationed at Ansonia High School

ANSONIA - The Lower Naugatuck Valley now has an American Red Cross Disaster Relief Trailer. Local officials and Valley Community Foundation representatives unveiled it Wednesday in the municipal parking lot on West Main Street.
It will be stationed at Ansonia High School and serve residents of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton in the event of an emergency.

September is National Preparedness Month.

Food, glorious food featured at Shelton Riverwalk

SHELTON - The Parent Child Resource Center is sponsoring Food Trucks in the Valley from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Riverwalk, with 10 percent of proceeds benefitting the agency's programs and services.

There will be more than 20 food trucks on hand, as well as live music, a classic car show, and activities for children.

Admission is free; for the over-21 crowd there will be beer, spiked cider, and wine.

The address is 100 Canal Street East.

The Derby-based Parent Child Resource Center is the leading provider of children's behavioral health care in the Valley.

Foley visits Ansonia businesses, talks about spending cuts

Foley criticized Gov. Dannel P. Malloy for not getting control over spending. "Let's stop raising taxes on people," he said.

Cassetti said the next governor "needs to be more business friendly. It's really important to a state like this."
