Griffin Center in Oxford to host Waste Not, Want Not presentation

OXFORD - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living Teaching Kitchen will host a free nutrition education presentation and cooking demonstration about preserving food and cooking with frequently thrown away plant parts.
Waste Not, Want Not will be Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.
Caty Poole, former Executive Director of Massaro Farm and sustainable nutrition expert, will discuss the best ways to preserve foods to maintain freshness and how to repurpose the nutritious seeds, stems and leaves that usually end up in the garbage bin.
She will also demonstrate how to make carrot top chimichurri and pan sheet roasted vegetables.
Space is limited for this event, so registration is required.

Derby Public Library to host presentation on Old Woodbury Path
The Old Woodbury Path was once an ancient Native American path that originally connected what is now the Lower Naugatuck Valley with tribal communities closer to Long Island Sound.
That was before it was made wider by European settlers in Oxford and Seymour so that they could more easily bring farm products to market during the Colonial Period.
Ultimately, the path connected Woodbury and beyond with Derby landing, which was an important port for ships that carried produce to New York, Boston, Europe and the West Indies.
Learn more about this ancient highway, its effect on commerce, its eventual demise, and where original sections can still be found.
This event is Part of Derby's 350th Celebration.

Kids to create crayon scratch art at Huntington Branch Library
Crayon Scratch Art
Date: Wednesday, Sept.17
Location: Huntington Branch Library, 41 Church St., Shelton
Children ages 6-11 are welcome to join Ms. Leanne at the Huntington Branch Library to learn how to make their very own scratch art using crayons and a toothpick.
All materials and supplies will be provided.
