* Watercolor paper, at least 9”x12”, taped to a board
* 3 brushes- a big flat, a small chisel, and a small round
* Paper should be for watercolor, any size. Don’t use printer paper for this one!
* A set of watercolors. Get whatever set you like.
That’s it, no pencils, no erasers, no rulers!

Learn to paint with watercolors at Beacon Falls Library


BEACON FALLS - The Friends of the Beacon Falls Library will sponsor a fun evening of watercolor painting from 6-8 p.m. July 30 at the Library, 10 Maple Ave.
Join local artist Rich DiCarlo, President of the Valley Arts Council, while he guides you step-by-step in creating a beautiful masterpiece all your own. 
No prior artistic abilities required. The class is great for beginners and pros alike.

Registration required. A $3 materials fee is required at time of registration.

Derby artist teaches step-by-step watercolor class at library

20 enjoy learning to paint winter scene
Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo offered a free class in watercolor techniques Monday night at Derby Public Library. 

I've taken the class in the past so I can attest it's fun and definitely educational!

DiCarlo simplifies the subject matter by showing students that what they are about to paint is made up of several simple shapes.


This is DiCarlo's watercolor painting that the class used as a model.

Below are a few of the paintings created that night.




As you can see, everyone has his or her own style. I think they did a great job! Using water colors can be a challenge.

DiCarlo will teach another class at the library in January at a time and date to be announced.

DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to Teen Maker Space from 3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 20 , to learn basic electronics by assembling, activating, and operating micro-electronic kits.

Derby Library to host social media talk, art class, more

DERBY - The Derby Public Library Teen Chess Club invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to meetings Mondays in May (excluding holidays) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. 
All skill levels are welcome. 
Participants will learn how the game is played as well as defensive/offensive strategies. 
Julio Maldonado provides superb expertise from a life-long love for the game. 
Registration is requested. 

YA Wednesdays
The Derby Public Library hosts YA Wednesdays every month from 6-7:30 p.m.
All young adults ages 12 to 17 are invited to join the fun each Wednesday in May as Nintendo Wii, board games, and Legos will be available. Light refreshments will be provided. 
Registration is requested. 

Social media
The Derby Public Library invites young adults ages 12 to 17 and parents to discuss current issues regarding social media 3:30-4:30 p.m. May 7.
In a presentation by Roger Mayers of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety, participants will gain understanding and learn to avoid pitfalls that negatively impact on teens using social media. 

Watercolor workshop
The Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to a Teen Watercolor Workshop, from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 14 and 21.
