Turnback Tuesday looks at 139 and 133 Main St., Derby and the homes of The Derby Transcript and J. E. Hunt & Co.
The Derby Transcript/Derby Publishing Co, founded by E. A. Horton in 1867, debuted in daily form.
The building housed the editorial rooms, business offices, and printing.
The management in 1935 stated, “Give all the news in an independent and straightforward manner.”
**The Library has some Derby Transcript newspapers on microfilm.**
The second business located in the same row of buildings is the J. (John) E. Hunt & Co, a manufacturer and dealer in straw and manila paper, paper bags, folding boxes, flour sacks, twine, etc. They were located at 133 Main St., Derby in 1895/96.
Thanks to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
