A Code Red Alert message from Mayor Cassetti being released this afternoon:
"Good Afternoon Residents of the Great City of Ansonia this is Mayor David S. Cassetti. As most of you know, the heat index is expected to soar more than 100 degrees on Saturday and the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the Northeast from noon Saturday to 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
"I want our residents, especially the elderly and disabled, to be in a cool environment and be safe. For those residents who do not have an air conditioned space to go to, we will have a cooling station for Ansonia residents at the Doyle Senior Center, 153 Main Street. We will be providing a misting station along with ice water and air conditioning from 10am -7pm tomorrow Saturday, July 20. Residents and pets are welcome.
"Please remember to drink plenty of water, stay indoors, wear sunscreen if you have to go outside and stay in shaded areas, make sure that you do not leave your pets in cars or outside during this heat wave.
"Finally, be sure to check on vulnerable friends, family members, and neighbors."
