Time running out to register for Pounding the Pavement for Seymour Pink

Hello 5K Runners and Walkers!

There is GOOD news and BAD news.

Our 5K registration for this year’s POUNDING the PAVEMENT for PINK has been off the charts!

As you know, we said we would cap the 5K at 2,600 runners/walkers or Sept. 22, whichever came first?

Well there is good news and bad news.

The good news is we are very close to 2,600, the bad news is we will close all registration at 11:59 p.m. this Wednesday, Sept. 13.

IF YOU have NOT registered for this year's 5K and are planning on doing so...time is RUNNING OUT!

Awards for “Most Team Members” in Individual/Family and Business/ Organization” categories, will be determined at the end of registration on Sept. 13.

HOWEVER, all donations made until Sept. 22., will continue to count toward “Most Monies Raised” awards for individual and for teams.

Also, although donations made after Sept. 22 will not count toward 5K awards, we will gratefully accept all online donations until Oct. 26, 2017.

PLEASE share with all who may not have signed up yet for this year’s 5K but are planning to do so; TIME is RUNNING OUT!

Recuperation journey: Sending prayers

Sending prayers and positive thoughts to the residents of Florida, southern Georgia, South Carolina, and everyone unlucky enough to be in the path of Hurricane Irma.

I can't imagine what they will be going through later today as Irma makes landfall.

I'm up early watching the TV coverage. Thank you, anti-rejection meds, for all the tossing and turning fun I've been having lately. 
It's about 5:45 a.m. as I write this, but I'm thankful all I'm dealing with is insomnia.

Being home, and not in a shelter with thousands of other people awaiting the brunt of a Category 3 or 4 hurricane, is something for which I am grateful.

Recuperation journey: Eyebrows

Yes, eyebrows.

Mine have returned to a new fullness since my kidney transplant in May. I only noticed it last week, and it made me happy. 

I lost my hair, including eyebrows and lashes, in 2011 when I went through chemotherapy. They returned but much more scant than they were. 

Husband Ralph wanted me to post a photo of myself with my (natural) eyebrows, but I went with some clip art instead.

Book discussion slated Monday at Written Words in Shelton

SHELTON - A R.I.S.E. (Read Inspire Share Empower) book discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Written Words Books & Gifts store, 415 Howe Ave.

R.I.S.E. discussion meets every other month on the second Monday.
This month’s discussion about Everybody Writes by Ann Handley will be facilitated by Shelton resident Kayleigh Apicerno.

The book is a go-to guide to attracting and retaining customers through stellar online communication. It can be purchased at Written Words.

Members rotate in selecting our reads and leading the discussion, and whoever is leading brings a bottle of wine to sip with the group. Members are committed to supporting and learning from each other so that we can “RISE” together, personally and professionally. New members are always welcome.

Author, movie critic to speak about Hollywood at Derby Public Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library welcomes Connecticut author Susan Granger at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 to discuss her book, 150 Timeless Movies. 

She will tell stories of Hollywood yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  

Granger is a true Hollywood insider. 

Her father was a director from Hollywood’s golden age, her mother a leading socialite in the film industry crowd, her son is one of today’s bright studio executives, and Granger herself is a syndicated critic and writer who is read daily on websites and in newspapers around the world.  

She was the movie critic on WICC for many years.  

Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Logan: Nominations sought for Veterans Hall of Fame

HARTFORD - As Vice-Chair of the legislature’s Veterans Affairs Committee, state Sen. George S. Logan, R-Ansonia, is letting the public know the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for its 2017 class.

Nominees must be veterans who honorably served in a branch of the military and who have been leaders in a variety of areas, such as arts, education, public service, volunteer activities, and community and business leadership.

Anyone can nominate a veteran, and the award also can be given posthumously.

Nomination packets and selection criterion can be found on the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs website under forms, or by going directly to:
