DPL's Turnback Tuesday will be on summer break, with the posts resuming in September.

Griffin Health offers 2 high blood sugar management sessions


The Griffin Center for Healthy Living will offer two sessions of its innovative high blood sugar management program in July.


Healthy for Life with Elevated Blood Sugar is a free, six-week program designed for individuals diagnosed with either pre-diabetes or diabetes to help them control their elevated blood sugar.

There will be a session held on Tuesdays from July 9-Aug. 13 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. at the Griffin Center for Healthy Living Conference Room, 2nd floor, Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road, Oxford, and another session on Thursdays from July 25-Aug. 29 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., Derby.

Participants will be empowered to manage their elevated blood sugar though education on healthy eating, weight management, physical activity, medication and glucose management technology, health related risks, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle goal setting. 

Based on the National Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes and The American Heart Association Healthy for Life, this program engages participants in learning and discussing clinical and lifestyle self-management behaviors to support optimizing their health, blood sugars, quality of life and psychosocial factors.

SEYMOUR - Learn about the importance of rope manufacturing in New England seaport towns and make rope right in the library at 11 a.m. July 23! 

We will practice rope skills and learn how to tie a variety of common knots used on land and at sea.

Ansonia Police seek 3 armed men in robbery at smoke shop



ANSONIA - Police said in a written release Monday evening three armed men robbed Moe’s Smoke Shop, 213 Pershing Drive, at about 7 p.m. Saturday. 

The store clerk reported a male came to the door of the shop and as he opened the door two other males came in behind the first male. Each was armed with a handgun and they proceeded to rob the store, police said. 
The suspects stole several hundred dollars in cash and about $1,000 in merchandise. The suspects were all described as young black males. 
Suspect #1 was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white sweatpants, black and white sneakers wearing white and black gloves and armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. 

Suspect #2 was wearing a black Nike hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, white and grey sneakers, purple gloves and armed with a silver revolver. 

Suspect #3 was wearing black and red jacket, grey jeans, and grey sneakers.

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a blue Honda sedan which was parked near the intersection of Pershing Drive and Bridge Street.

SHELTON - To allow our volunteers time with their families for the July 4th holiday, the FOTSL donation bin will be closed starting today, July 1 and will reopen Monday, July 8.

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti, former Alderman Pat Henri and Holy Rosary's Scout Troop 7 are preparing for Ansonia's annual Rocket Launch Thursday, July 4 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Nelligan Park.

Bring a lawn chair and come enjoy the view of about 50 rockets and four launch pads as we celebrate Independence Day!
