Enjoy Coffee with a Cop Monday at Target in Ansonia

ANSONIA - On Monday (Oct. 15) from 9 a.m.-noon the Ansonia Police Department will host “Coffee With A Cop” at the Starbucks inside Target, 20 West Main St. 
This event is an opportunity for residents to come and meet some of the members of the Ansonia Police Department and to ask any questions you may have, or speak about issues that concern you. Hope to see you there.

Griffin Hospital in Derby to offer talk on minimally invasive hip surgery

DERBY - Griffin Hospital will offer a free presentation on minimally invasive hip replacement surgery at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 17.

Orthopedic surgeon Philip Minotti, MD, will discuss the advanced direct anterior approach for hip replacement, which offers important advantages over standard surgical procedures. Direct anterior hip replacement patients generally experience less pain along with a shorter length of stay in the hospital and faster recovery.
Minotti will answer any questions attendees may have.
These seminars are offered monthly at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St.
Refreshments will be served.

Ansonia mayor slates annual State of the City address


CT Firefighters Association honors Logan with 'Legislator of the Year' award

HARTFORD - State Sen. George S. Logan, R-Ansonia, has received the “Legislator of the Year” award from the 26,000-member Connecticut State Firefighters Association.

The Connecticut State Firefighters Association honored Logan for his advocacy on behalf of the Valley Fire School, his participation in the Fire/EMS Caucus, and his legislative proposal to help increase racial diversity in the hiring of firefighters statewide.
“I’m humbled to receive this recognition, but the fact is that our firefighters are heroes who put their lives on the line every day,” Logan said. “They do it to protect our loved ones, our communities, and our property. At the State Capitol, I will continue to do all I can to help them do the jobs that they do so well.”

Logan received the honor at the Connecticut State Firefighters Association’s Sept. 15 convention at Company One, Avon Fire Department.

"A notice from Ansonia Rescue and Medical Services: October is Fire Safety Month! Look, Listen, and Learn about Fire Safety. Be sure to check your smoke detectors and replace batteries this month! 
"ARMS has a limited supply of smoke detectors that can be provided for those who have a real need and do not have the means to get them yourself (elderly, low income, fallen on hard times, etc.) Please message us and we will be happy to drop one off, free of charge.

Derby Senior Center to hold annual fall fair

DERBY - Autumn fun is on tap Oct. 20 when the Derby Senior Center holds its annual Fall Fair. 
It will run from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 

The fair will feature a tag sale, baked goods, crafts, a raffle, and more.

There will be free cider and doughnut holes available for the first 100 people. Use the Elizabeth Street entrance across from Archie Moore's Bar & Restaurant.
