BHcare seeks participants, sponsors for Bowl-2-Benefit in Milford

BHcare’s 30th Annual Bowl-2-Benefit The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services will be held March 10 at Bowlero in Milford.

All proceeds benefit UCDVS which provides services to more than 6,000 victims of domestic violence and their children each year throughout Greater New Haven and the Lower Naugatuck Valley. 

UCDVS provides emergency safe shelter, 24-hour crisis services, counseling, court advocacy, support, and other crucial services.

We are currently seeking bowlers and sponsors for our 30th year celebration. 

B2B started in 1988 as a way to raise money for the domestic violence shelter. The event was first held at Valley Bowl in Derby. Bowlers collected pledges and all proceeds benefited the domestic violence program.  

B2B continues to support the domestic violence program and has grown over the years to one of the largest fundraisers of its kind in the state. The event attracts 1,500 community members who gather each year to "bowl a strike" against domestic violence. 

Bowlers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in teams of 4-5, in one of five bowling sessions scheduled for 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.  

Bowlers pay a minimal $5 registration fee and are asked to collect pledges to support their efforts.  

Each bowler will receive 90 minutes of bowling, an event t-shirt, shoe rental, soft drink, and a chance to win prizes. The event is ideal for clubs, schools, organizations, corporations and families.

B2B offers sponsorship opportunities for all budgets, with levels starting at just $100. Sponsors reap the benefit of exposure to the more than 1,500 participants as well as additional exposure online. T-shirt sponsors receive continued exposure with their logo printed on the event tee that is distributed to all bowlers.  

T-shirt level sponsorships start at $1000.

Last year, the event raised over $70,000. Event organizers hope to exceed that amount this year and attract an even larger bowling crowd. 

The 30th B2B is sponsored by the Bassett Family Fund and media partners include Channel 3 Eyewitness News, WPLR 99.1-FM and Star 99.9-FM.

Seymour Pink’s annual wine tasting has been changed to “A PINK NIGHT TO REMEMBER!”
It will be held March 9 at The Waterview in Monroe. 
"We will again be using both floors of the Waterview. We will offer the same great food choices, a signature wine glass, a complimentary photo booth, and along with beer and wine samplings, our guests can enjoy complimentary cocktails all evening."

Valley United Way to hold Great Gatsby Gala fundraiser

SHELTON -The Valley United Way will hold its 4th Annual Great Gatsby Gala to benefit Valley Food Insecurity at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 20, at The Inn at Villa Bianca in Seymour.

The exciting and elegant event is based upon The Great Gatsby, the epic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. 

Guests at the gala can dress in 1920s attire and there will be a costume contest for the best-dressed individuals.

A sumptuous dinner includes starters such as fried calamari, crab-stuffed mushrooms, pastry puffs with spinach, as well as main courses and side dishes including mouth-watering carving stations of salmon, beef, chicken and potatoes, pastas, and salads. A beautiful Venetian dessert table tops off the meal. 

Bottles of wine will be provided at each table and a cash bar will be open throughout the evening.

The Rob Zappulla 13-Piece Big Band will perform 1920s-to-50s-era music as well as popular songs through the '50s. 

Zappulla was featured vocalist for eight years in the famed Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, led by the late Buddy Morrow.

In addition, there will be a live and silent auction, door prizes and valet parking. Professional dancer Kristen Prall, owner of the studio Art in Motion, will perform and provide dance instruction.
