Griffin Hospital van to visit Shelton Farmers Market through November

SHELTON - The Griffin Hospital Community Outreach Van will be at the Shelton CT Farmers Market Monthly June through November with a mission to bring education and health to the community remembering body, mind, and spirit. 
The van will be parked at the market [and nurses will be] doing blood pressure readings and answering general health questions. 

Please come to the market and avail yourselves of these free services. Each month will have a different wellness theme. 
Come on down and stay well with us!

The market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Ansonia Police post Wakelee Avenue closing schedule for construction

ANSONIA - Beginning Monday Wakelee Avenue from Division Street to Jackson Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, while the construction project begins to excavate the road. 
Residents of Wakelee Avenue as well as workers and patrons of the businesses on Wakelee Avenue will be allowed access. 

The detour for all other traffic will be as follows:

Northbound traffic on Wakelee Avenue will be detoured at Division Street to Grove Street to Howard Avenue to Jackson Street.

Southbound traffic on Wakelee Avenue will be detoured at Jackson Street to Howard Avenue to Grove Street to Division Street.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as the project moves forward and updates will be provided as circumstances allow.

Diabetes management is topic of talk at Griffin Hospital in Derby

The Diabetes Education & Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host presentations Tuesday about summer tips for individuals diagnosed with diabetes. /Contributed photo

DERBY - The Diabetes Education & Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host two free presentations about summer tips for individuals diagnosed with diabetes at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the hospital, 130 Division St.

Certified Diabetes Educator Mary Swansiger, BSN, MPH, will lead a discussion about managing diabetes over the summer, including healthier food choices, recipe makeovers, and travel tips. 

Additional resources will be discussed such as phone apps and websites.

The presentations will be in the hospital’s Childbirth Education Classroom A.

The Diabetes Education & Support Group meets September - June on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss the management of diabetes, its challenges, and day-to-day dietary concerns. 
Individuals with diabetes and their caregivers are welcome to attend.

No registration is required.

Improv Night for Tweens slated at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton

SHELTON - Tweens (5th and 6th graders) are invited to come take to the stage with Miss Robin to enjoy improvisational theater games for beginners. 
Classes are from 5-6 p.m. Mondays, June 4, 11, 18, 25.
Registration is required. 

Caregivers of tweens MUST remain in the library during this program.
