Recuperation journey: Lazin' on a summer afternoon

This was me today ... low energy and lazin' around. 
Oh well, I suppose I'm still recuperating!

I call this one "Bird on Wire."

Entrepreneurial grant applications sought, fundraiser slated in Seymour

The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce Women In Networking Council is now accepting applications for its Annual Entrepreneurial Grant program. 

If you have (or know of) a woman-owned business in Shelton, Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, or Seymour, please contact the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce for a copy of the application!

A fund-raising event is planned for Sept. 28 from 5:30 -9:30 p.m.- a Retro 80's Night at The Strand Theater, 165 Main St., Seymour. It will feature the showing of the iconic 80's film Working Girl.

Seymour Public Library slates September programs for children

SEYMOUR - Seymour Public Library, 46 Church St., has announced programs for children and young adults in September.

9/7 – 10:30 a.m.– Lynn Lewis - Music & Movement for ages 0-6. A fun time for everyone!!

9/7 - 4 p.m. – StoryKids’ Book Club for K-Grade 2.  Book talks, craft and a snack. Child must have some reading ability.

9/12, 19, 26 (10/3 and 17) – 10:30 a.m. – Family Place Playgroup – for infants-6 year olds. Meet people and try many types of play, craft table, and brief circle time at the end. Possible visit from local childcare expert.

9/13- 4 p.m. – Nutmeggers’ - YA Book Club for Grades 5-8.  Book talks, craft, and a snack - features the Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees.

9/14 – 10:30 a.m. – Science Snoopers ‘Tall Tails’ – Natural science, story, and craft for ages 2 and up. Must be able to sit and listen.

9/14 – 4 p.m. – BookChatters’ Book Club for Grades 2-4.  - Book talks, craft, and a snack - features the Magic Tree House Series. 

9/21 – 4 p.m. – ‘The Club’ book club for Grades 8 and up.  Teen advisory ~ Booktalk, snacks, and more.

All Programs Are Free! Fun! & Formative! Some have limited

limited enrollment; registration is required for all programs.

Mystery photo a mystery no more

Last week I posted this 'mystery photo' of corn cobs hanging from a roof. 
A friend guessed correctly on Facebook that I took the photo at Field View Farm in Orange on Route 34 near the Derby line. 
My daughter and I had stopped there for ice cream - and vegetables - after a medical appointment.

'Circle of Friends' at Griffin in Derby applaud facilitator on award nomination

At our Circle of Friends breast cancer support group meeting Thursday at Griffin Hospital we learned co-facilitator Donna Hayes, center, was nominated for the 17th annual Women Making a Difference in the Valley Award. 

Co-facilitator Joyce Grohe, left, announced the honor for Hayes, who is oncology social worker at the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital.
Congratulations, Donna, on this recognition! It's certainly well-deserved.
When I snapped the photo at our annual ice cream social I didn't realize Grohe and Seymour Pink founder Mary Deming, right, also are recipients of this prestigious award for all they do in the community. 

The Tribute Luncheon and Fundraiser will be held at noon Oct. 5 at the Inn at Villa Bianca, Roosevelt Drive, Seymour.

Its primary goal is to reach out to any person who cannot afford breast cancer screening and diagnostic imaging costs and enable them to receive it.
