Griffin Hospital in Derby slates talk on staying healthy during holiday season

DERBY - The Community Health Resource Center at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., will host a free presentation on taking control of your weight and health this holiday season and beyond Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Health & Weight Management Coach Sara Bye will present “Have Happy & Healthy Holidays,” an open discussion of seven tips to help manage stress and unhealthy temptations throughout the holiday season and stay on track for successful health and weight management for years to come.
This program is part of a series of free, educational forums hosted by the Community Health Resource Center to help improve the health of the community.

The Community Health Resource Center at Griffin Hospital is a traditional library that provides an array of medical and health information, including a large collection of easy to read health and lifestyle related materials.

Seymour Culture & Arts Commission to host downtown Halloween Parade

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Culture and Arts Commission will hold its downtown Trick or Treat event from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 28.
It will feature a Halloween Parade on Bank and Main Streets led by the Seymour Middle School band, followed by trick or treating at downtown businesses.
An information booth will be set up at the intersection of First and Bank Streets.

White Hills Fire Company in Shelton to hold annual open house Saturday
SHELTON - White Hills Fire Company will host its annual open house from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the firehouse, 2 School St.
This event will include live demonstrations, kids' activities, fire prevention information, food, recruitment options, and more.
Live demonstrations will begin around noon; there will be information and activities for people of all ages before then.

Fire trucks will also be available to explore and learn what Shelton firefighters do on a regular basis.

DERBY - The Derby Public Library continues its weekly Wednesday Movie Matinees series for ages 18 and over.
Newly released DVDs will be shown at 1 p.m. every Wednesday. Light snacks will be provided.

Seymour Public Library slates concert of early rock 'n roll music
SEYMOUR - Rave On! will perform in a free concert at Seymour Public Library at 2 p.m. Oct. 22.
The band specializes in the early hits of rock 'n roll, such as the timeless music of Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and others that influenced artists that came afterward.
Musicians such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen all owe their inspiration to this era.
Rave On!'s high energy performance and timeless music will get young and old rocking.
