Derby Neck Library offers movie, motivational seminar, more in April

DERBY - Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., hosts Dinner and a Movie for ages 18 and older at 5:30 p.m. April 5. 
 
This month’s film is “Lady Bird.” 
Come enjoy free movie refreshments, including a pizza dinner at intermission.  

Motivational seminar
At 2 p.m. April 7 the Library hosts a free Motivational Seminar conducted by business expert Marjan Sattarpour.  
Learn how she was inspired to change her life, lose weight, and become a champion athlete. She shares her tips for life changes that truly work. 

Author to discuss novel
The Library presents author Beth Lapin discussing her book  “Caravan of Dreams” at 6:30 p.m. April 9.

The story is based on a 1896 death on the railroad tracks in East Hartford, involving gypsies.  
Learn how the author traced down these individuals and reclaimed their story for her novel.  Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing. 

Women's Forum
The Library will host Women’s Forum, a discussion group that focuses on short stories and Valley history presentations at 12:30 p.m. April 16.
This month we consider two short stories by Willa Cather.  
Copies of the stories are available at the library.  
Feel free to bring a light lunch. We serve coffee and tea. 

Tech Talks
At 10:30 a.m. April 18 the Library will host Tech Talks, a monthly program which offer advice on what is new in technology and how to best use it in your life. 

Author to speak
At 6:30 p.m. April 24 the Library will present noted lecturer David Leff with a talk on “Deep Travel: How to Journey like H.D. Thoreau.”  

Join us as we learn how the famed naturalist approached travel and how he made his observations along the way.  
Leff has authored numerous books of essays, poetry, natural history, and more - all with a focus on the beauties of the natural sights around us in Connecticut.  


Evening Book Club
The Library hosts the Evening Book Club at its fireplace setting at 6:30 p.m. April 30.
This month we discuss “The Death of Ivan Ilyich” by Leo Tolstoy.  
Come enjoy an informative and interesting conversation. 
We focus on an award-winning novella each month.

Recuperation journey: Bucket list

"Gotta laugh sometimes."

A few weeks ago we got a new and improved vacuum cleaner. 
My daughter says it works much better than the old one did.

I've yet to try it out. 
But using it is near the top of my bucket list.

Ansonia Corporation Counsel to host FOI workshop in April



Ansonia Corporation Counsel John Paul Marini has announced that he will be hosting a Freedom of Information Workshop April 9 beginning at 7 p.m. in Ansonia City Hall, with special guest Tom Hennick from Connecticut's FOI Commission. 
The event is open to all!
The announcement is a fitting end to Sunshine Week, a national celebration of open government and Connecticut's FOI laws. #SunshineWeek
