Congratulations to the four Seymour Middle School students who recently won an annual Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Seymour Lions Club.
According to the Lions Club International website, "For the last 31 years Lions clubs around the world have proudly sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace."
True story:
Early Tuesday morning my daughter was eating her breakfast when she saw a blue flash outside.
It was one of our five blue jay friends with something in his mouth. He landed on this shrub and quickly flew off.
Allegra went outside to take a photo and this is what he had placed there - a peanut shell.
Was he trying to hide it from our neighborhood squirrels? It was in plain sight after all.
I know blue jays aren't known as the nicest birds around, but their feathers are pretty and I enjoy trying to capture them in photos.
DERBY - Derby High School will host its first mattress fundraiser Feb. 24 to support its football and baseball programs.
The event will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Derby Middle School gym. The school is at 73 Chatfield St.
