Wesley Village in Shelton offers Alzheimer's support group
SHELTON - Do you know or care for someone recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia? Are you in need of support? You’re not alone!
Caregivers are invited to Wesley Village April 21 and every 3rd Thursday of the month, from 2-3 p.m. for an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group.
The group will offer problem-solving techniques and helpful support for families and caregivers, and will be facilitated by Wesley Village staff.
Your loved one is welcome to participate in activities in a secured environment while you attend the support group.

Seymour, Oxford high school seniors can apply for McKane scholarship
SEYMOUR - Each year the McKane Scholarship award of $1,000 or more is given to a graduating high school student from Seymour or Oxford who has been accepted and plans to attend a college, university or other institute of higher learning.
The McKane Scholarship is in memory of Peter Hall McKane who died tragically at the age of 18 in an automobile accident and his brother, Paul Archer McKane, who died in 2003 from cancer.
The scholarship fund was endowed by the McKane family, friends and members of the Great Hill United Methodist Church, and is overseen by the church’s trustees.
Selection criteria for the scholarship include financial need, personal effort, including community service, individual goals reflecting a degree of determination, and academic achievement.
Deadline for applications is May 2, 2016.

SHELTON - Treasured Time invites the community to a hilarious dinner theatre show fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. May 21 at Brownson Country Club, 15 Soundview Ave.
“For Better & For Worse” is an unpredictable and spontaneous performance that immerses the audience in an interactive theatre experience that takes all the elements of a typical over-the-top Italian American wedding and exaggerates them with hilarious results.
Participants are invited to wear their favorite bridesmaid, gangster, or movie star outfit.
“We're very excited to be doing our production for this fantastic organization," said Janice Luise-Lutkus, Founder and Executive Director of AspenDream Production. "Treasured Time has touched many lives and we hope people will come out and support this cause. It’s a complete night of entertainment. You’ll dance, dine, and be delighted."
The event will also feature a silent auction of fun wedding themed packages.
Tickets for dinner and the show are $60 per person, $100 per couple or $400 for a table of eight. There is a cash bar available.
Proceeds support Treasured Time, a not-for-profit organization that grants wishes of parents with life-threatening illnesses who want to create lasting memories with their children.

This 36-hour, community online giving event for nonprofits begins at 8 a.m. May 3 and lasts until 8 p.m. May 4.
Any charitable donation received will make the Library eligible for thousands of dollars in grant prizes provided by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, The Valley Community Foundation, and other generous community sponsors.

Derby fountain figures prominently in history of troughs throughout U.S.

Local history buff Jack Walsh of Derby, President/COO of Valley United Way, has created an interactive map of the National Humane Alliance fountains found throughout the United States.
Derby's fountain originally was located on Founders Common on Academy Hill Road. It was moved to the entrance of the Derby Greenway in 2007.
National Humane Alliance Fountains were given to more than 100 communities between 1903 and 1913. They were used as watering troughs for animals.
