Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto cuts a ceremonial ribbon Thursday to welcome River Rock Tavern, 5 Main St.
A friendly sign greets customers at the front door.
Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce President Bill Purcell, at right, thanked owners Brad and Sharon Purciello of Shelton, center, for their 'commitment to the Valley.'
"You are the gateway not only to downtown Derby but to our Valley, from the Greater New Haven area," Purcell said.
Dugatto welcomed the couple to Derby and wished them well in their new business venture.
My husband, Ralph, and I celebrated New Year's Eve a bit early after the ribbon cutting.
We enjoyed a complimentary buffet featuring wings, fried pickles, and more!
Our thanks to Marie Katzas, who efficiently waited on us in the midst of the bustling grand opening party.
I wish the Purciellos all the best in their new endeavor! They are off to a great start.

It's 2016 ~ I resolve...
As I sit here trying to come up with creative New Year's Resolutions for 2016, the same ones keep coming to the surface.
They run along the lines of:
1) Exercise more
2) Eat healthier
3) Lose weight
4) Get organized
5) De-clutter, not only my closets, but my mind!
6) Save for a rainy day
But those annual goals can be filled with pressure.
I'll just wish my readers a Happy and Healthy New Year and skip the same old resolutions!
Who's with me?
