DERBY - Since I'm a board member of the Valley Arts Council I decided I needed to get in touch with my "inner artist."
I haven't done any artwork since I was a teen-ager, and we won't go into how long ago that was.
I have taken two watercolor classes offered by Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo at Derby Public Library.
He offers them free to young adult patrons (ages 12-17). This class is made up of five young women (and me).

It's a start.
I've learned about using paper towels to blot the water puddles, and found out that using watercolor paints takes practice.
You have to get the feel for the different size brushes, and work on getting the right amount of water on a sponge to apply to the paper before you start adding paint.
I need to lose my apprehension about using water colors.
