Talk at Griffin Hospital in Derby to focus on diabetes management

DERBY - The Diabetes Education & Support Group at Griffin Hospital will host two free presentations about diabetes self-management at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Certified Diabetes Educator Mary Swansiger, BSN, MPH, will facilitate “Diabetes Self-Management, What’s Working Well & What We’re Struggling With,” an open discussion of participant experiences and available resources such as websites, phone apps for goal setting and tracking, and community resources.
The presentations will be in the hospital’s Dining Room Meeting Room 1.

The Diabetes Education & Support Group meets September-June on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss the management of diabetes, its challenges, and day-to-day dietary concerns. Individuals with diabetes and their caregivers are welcome to attend.

Ansonia to open Armory on weekday mornings for winter walking

ANSONIA - The annual tradition continues as Mayor David S. Cassetti today announced the Ansonia Armory building will be open to the public for winter walking.
Located at 5 State St., the gymnasium area will be open 7-10 a.m. weekdays.
Cassetti said he wants a safe and warm place for the public to be able to maintain their exercise regimen during the cold winter months and lose those holiday pounds.
The start date will be Monday Jan. 7.

Ansonia Nature Center needs TP, paper towel tubes for craft


ANSONIA - The Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center needs empty toilet paper and paper towel tubes for a huge craft project planned in honor of MLK Jr. Day, Jan. 21, at the Peabody Museum in New Haven. 

Items can be dropped at the Nature Center no later than Jan. 18 (the earlier, the better), 10 Deerfield Lane.
