Derby Neck Library slates Tech Talks, maple sugaring program, more


DERBY - Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., hosts Women’s Forum, a discussion group that focuses on short stories and local history, at 12:30 p.m. May 15.  
This month’s topic is two short stories by American author Carson McCullers.  
Copies of the stories are available for free at the library.  Attendees may wish to bring a light lunch.  We serve free coffee and tea.  

Tech Talks
On May 17 at 10:30 a.m. the Library presents Tech Talks, a program that offers free advice on what is new in technology and how to best use it in your daily life.  
Topics change each month; please call the library to learn what is being covered in the May talk.  

Evening Book Club
The Library hosts the Evening Book Club, meeting in our Reading Room by the fireplace at 6:30 p.m. May 22.  
Each month we discuss a short book - novellas and sometimes memoirs by award-winning authors.  
This month’s selection is “Reflections in a Golden Eye” by American author Carson McCullers. Copies of the book are available in our library. 

Maple sugaring
The Library hosts author and environmentalist David K. Leff discussing his book on maple sugaring at 6:30 p.m. May 23.
Learn all about this ancient technique and how farmers in the Northeast are using technology to enhance production. Learn how to harvest your own syrup too.  
This is a free event with a noted area speaker who has visited us in the past.

Logan attends baby fair at Griffin Hospital in Derby

DERBY - State Sen. George S. Logan Saturday joined new and expectant parents at the Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital’s Annual Baby Fair.  
The free event featured over 30 exhibitors, door prizes, and tours of the Childbirth Center.
