Derby Public Library to host resume workshop via Zoom
DERBY - Derby Public Library will host Create a Great Resume Workshop online from 1-3 p.m. Thursday.
Career Resources staff will provide guidance for creating resumes for the modern work environment, what pitfalls to avoid, and include current standards and styles that make resumes stand out. Free.

Griffin Hospital in Derby earns award for treatment of stroke patients
The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
Griffin earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period.
These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, as well as other care transition interventions.
“Griffin Hospital is dedicated to improving the quality of care for our stroke patients by implementing the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke initiative,” said Todd J. Liu, Vice President, Accountable Care and General Counsel. “The tools and resources provided help us track and measure our success in meeting evidenced-based clinical guidelines developed to improve patient outcomes.”
Griffin additionally received the Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award. To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed with more than 90% of compliance for 12 consecutive months for the “Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score.”

Schwamm, M.D., national chairperson of the Quality Oversight Committee and Executive Vice Chair of Neurology, Director of Acute Stroke Services, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. “Research has shown that hospitals adhering to clinical measures through the Get With The Guidelines quality improvement initiative can often see fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates.”
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

BHcare's The Umbrella Center receives $2,500 from Archbishop's Annual Appeal
BHcare’s The Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services recently received a check in the amount of $2,500 from the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal through its Vicariate Outreach Program.
The funding will help UCDVS continue to provide free and confidential services to nearly 8,000 victims of domestic violence and their children each year.
UCDVS provides emergency safe shelter, 24-hour crisis services, counseling, court advocacy, support and other crucial services to those fleeing from domestic abuse.
“We are so grateful for the continued support of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal” said Esperina Stubblefield, Director of UCDVS. “This funding is needed more so than ever before. As the pandemic surges, calls to our hotlines remain steady and our clients’ needs are increasing. These funds will help us meet those needs and we are so thankful.”
UCDVS is a program of BHcare that provides services for victims and children of domestic violence free of charge.

Naugatuck Valley Health District: COVID-19 associated death reported in Seymour
In a statement late Thursday the NVHD reported: "There was one laboratory confirmed death updated to the district. The decedent was a Seymour resident living in an assisted living facility at the time of death. He was 89 and passed away on Nov. 5. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

*Note: I stopped posting Naugatuck Valley Health District COVID-19 updates a while ago. But after the Connecticut Department of Health's determination this week that the Valley is deemed a "red alert zone" I decided to post the above.
The NVHD includes Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour, and Shelton.
