DERBY - Griffin Hospital will offer a free talk on how to plan for future health care and medical decisions at 6:30 p.m. April 17.

Griffin Hospital Advance Care Planning Coordinator Lynn Aiksnoras will present “Advance Care Planning: Honoring Health Care Choices,” an open discussion on the three stages of Advance Care Planning in which individuals discuss and decide their future health care wishes if they are unable to speak for themselves.

“As adults, we make many choices throughout life. Most often, the best choices are made as a result of good planning, such as career, financial, retirement, and estate planning,” Aiksnoras said.
“So, why is it that so few people have a plan for making healthcare and end-of-life decisions?”

ACP is a process of understanding, reflecting on and discussing individual goals, beliefs, and values in order to determine a person’s overall wishes, should a time come when he or she cannot make them for him or herself.
ACP ensures patients’ health care wishes are respected by loved ones and health care providers.
This process also gives comfort and reassurance to health care representatives, enabling them to clearly understand patients’ end-of-life preferences.

Healthy U Talks
This talk is part of Griffin Hospital's Healthy U Talks, a series of free wellness talks featuring Griffin Hospital medical experts and community partners providing trusted health information and answers to questions on a wide range of topics.

To reserve a spot or for more information, call 203-732-1511 or visit griffinhealth.org/events
The hospital is at 130 Division St.

Recuperation journey: Traveling banana

I've been immersed in a banana situation of late. Sound strange? This is my life.

As regular readers must realize, my husband Ralph and I work from home, sitting at our respective computers a few feet apart. And since he has a physical disability I try to make things as easy as possible for him.

Each morning I put a banana next to his cereal bowl at the table. (Ralph is a cold cereal aficionado).
If he doesn't eat said banana, I put it next to his phone on his desk for a healthy snack.

If it is still there at the end of the day, I put it back by his place at the table.
The banana usually starts out a bit green, but by the third or fourth day of this wackiness it starts to get some brown spots.

Sometimes he will snack on it, but it feels like more often than not I'm carrying it back and forth.
Another glimpse into my oh-so interesting daily life.
