Knights of Columbus in Shelton sponsors virtual Greenway 5K Road Race

Sharing message from John Niski, race director:

"The Shelton Knights of Columbus Bernardo Council #1350 of Shelton, CT is sponsoring their 13th annual  "Greenway 5k Road Race" this year as a Virtual Race.

This is a great way to get everyone outside (alone) and enjoy some exercise during these stressful times while also donating to a great cause that services a number of charitable organizations in the local Valley community.  There is also a great opportunity to have others join in on the fun by encouraging friends and family from anywhere around the Globe to participate.

What does this mean for a runner? Understanding that many runners have been training for road races throughout the winter and have been looking forward to hitting the pavement this Spring, rest assured that training will not be in vain. Participants can now run ANY TIME between April 11, 2020 and May 2, 2020 (official raceday). The distance of the race is still a 5k (3.1 miles). Runners can still run (ALONE) on the original course which is located along the Naugatuck River Greenway in Derby, CT or they run anywhere they like. Around the neighborhood, on a favorite training course, at the local high school track, even on a treadmill in the basement! Runners decide Where and When they want to participate! Runners then make certain to track their time on a standard smart-watch, wristwatch, or smart phone and then submit they submit their completed 5k race time to our dedicated race website.  We will then post the results on the race website and determine the winners in each category. Trophies will still be awarded for the top runner in each category. This of course, is an honesty event and we expect everyone to submit their correct, legitimate time.

This is a great opportunity to get everyone outside (alone) and enjoy some exercise during these stressful times while also donating to a great cause that services a number of charitable organizations in the community.

Signups are still being held until 4/25/20."

Signups can be done on the CT Hitek Racing website:  http://www.hitekracing.com/greenway5k/

"By holding this annual race virtually, it will allow people from anywhere in the world to get outside, run, and compete while still maintaining social distancing during this very difficult time.
"Our local Knights of Columbus Council is looking to provide a little healthy distraction in this time of uncertainty while raising much needed funding for their many charitable causes. Race sponsors are being featured on the social media websites and on the official race t-shirts which will be mailed to all participants."
