'Turnback Tuesday' highlights history of Star Pin Co. in Shelton

Turnback Tuesday is showcasing another item from Derby Public Library’s collection: an 80th Anniversary pen for the Star Pin Company.

Star Pin was established Sept. 25,1866 in 5,000 feet of floor space with 10 employees. They moved to Canal Street, Shelton in 1875, and by 1935, the this location boasted 125,000 square feet of space.

Star Pin Co. manufactured bank and toilet pins, wire hair pins, hooks and eyes, hook and eye tape, and paper boxes.

Thanks as always goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
