'Turnback Tuesday' features F.W. Woolworth store in Derby

Turnback Tuesday remembers our local F. W. Woolworth store on Main Street, Derby. 
This photo was taken looking east on Main Street and shows the store to the right. Notice it was across from the beginning of Elizabeth Street. 
F.W. Woolworth started as a 5 cent store in Utica, N.Y. on Feb. 22, 1879 and by its 100th Anniversary in 1979 it was the largest department store in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
