First United Methodist Church of Ansonia to host carol sing-along Dec. 1
ANSONIA - First United Methodist Church will present a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long for the community at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 to welcome the start of the festive season.
The church is at 47 Franklin St.
Derby Public Library to host book discussion of murder mystery on Halloween

'Turnback Tuesday' features Farrel Corp. plant in Ansonia
Turnback Tuesday remembers the Farrel Corp. Bridge Street Plant, Ansonia. Almon and his son, Franklin Farrel, founded the company in 1848.
The company produced rubber and plastic processing equipment, metal rolls for industry, roll grinders for paper and steel industries, castings, etc.
According to the city directories, this plant opened at 100 Bridge St., Ansonia in 1968, the same year the Farrel Co. joined with U.S. Shoe Machinery. Operations continued until 1980 at this location.
In 1981 Franklin Farrel IV resigned, ending the family participation in the business.
On May 14, 2001 the building was destroyed by fire.

SHELTON - The Greater Valley Salvation Army will host its second annual Red Kettle Kick-Off Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at Courtyard by Marriott.
The Salvation Army is active in virtually every corner of the world, serving 133 countries. We offer healing, hope, and help to all in need.
Here in the Greater Valley we offer emergency assistance including a food pantry, financial assistance for rent and utilities, back-to-school assistance, and we offer holiday assistance to provide toys for boys and girls in the community.
In addition, we offer an overnight camping experience for children and we have a community garden at our Corps location at 26 Lester St., Ansonia.
Where there is need, you’ll find The Salvation Army – dedicated to Doing The Most Good!
