Derby Public Library posts info about National Library Week

National Library Week (April 7-13, 2024) is a time to celebrate Derby Public Library along with all of our nation's libraries, library workers' contributions and promote library use and support.

The theme for National Library Week 2024 is "Ready, Set, Library," illustrating the idea that in our always-online world, libraries give us a green light to something truly special: a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on what matters most.

At library author talks, programs, workshops, and book clubs, Americans can connect with fellow enthusiasts and local experts while building relationships that will last a lifetime, and Derby Public Library is no exception.

No matter where you find yourself on the roadmap through life’s journey—preparing for a new career, launching a business, or raising a family—the library provides an inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs.

Derby Police Department welcomes newest recruit

Derby PD would like to welcome our newest police recruit, Nicholas Roberts.

He was sworn in by our Police Commissioners Thursday evening. Recruit Roberts was to begin training Friday at the Police Academy in Meriden.

Tribute to Dean Martin performance slated at Seymour Public Library

Jack Lynn was born in Bridgeport, Ct. at the time Dean Martin’s career was beginning to “take off.” Born of a Sicilian immigrant mother, Jack was raised in the atmosphere of a typical Italian family of the 1950s. 

“There was always lots of love, lots of food, and lots of great music.”
With the urging of friends, family and other singers, Jack developed his “Dino’s Back – A Tribute to Dean Martin” show. Jack will tell you, “I don’t consider myself an impressionist although people tell me if they close their eyes, it’s like listening to a Dean Martin CD. I really don’t think there could be any greater compliment for me. My goal is to honor and celebrate the memory of Dino’s sound, great sense of humor, and maybe have some fun along the way.”

In addition as a part of his show, Jack performs mini tributes to Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Perry Como and Elvis Presley.

This is a free event open to all, no registration is necessary for the 7 p.m. concert April 26. Library doors open at 6:30 p.m. Circulation and public computers remain closed.
