Teen Advisory Board to meet at Derby Public Library

DERBY - Derby Public Library invites all young adults ages 12 to 17 to a Teen Advisory Board meeting at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

Attendees are encouraged to voice their ideas for improving and expanding young adult library services and teen programming. 

Focus will include participant input that contributes to the library fulfilling its mission of qualityof-life enhancements in: knowledge; entertainment;  citizenship.

'Turnback Tuesday' highlights plumbing business in Derby


Turnback Tuesday looks at the successful business of Little & Haggerty Heating & Plumbing
.

Both Philip H. Little and William D. Haggerty started out as plumbers. In 1904, they joined forces and opened up Little & Haggerty at 16 Housatonic Ave. (16 Roosevelt Drive) They ran a successful business as partners until Little's death in January, 1933 at age 57.

Haggerty continued with the same name of Little & Haggerty until his retirement in 1955 when the new business became Dempsey & Shields Plumbers.

This Derby Exchange Telephone Directory was a recent donation from the R. Ahern family.

SHELTON - Retired Shelton High School teacher and author Gary Scarpa will talk about his new book, 'What Are the Chances?' Wednesday at Plumb Memorial Library.

"Mia, Franki, and I will be talking about my latest book with our good friend Liz Kennard (as moderator) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. -- and I will be signing books in the hour before the talk (5-6) and the hour after the talk (7-8).
