Ansonia celebrates grand opening of senior center in style

Senior Center Director Christine Sonsini celebrates the grand opening with Charles Rosenay, owner of Liverpool Productions Entertainment.

ANSONIA - Did you ever go to a grand opening event and not realize it was going to be a big party?

That was yours truly Thursday when I attended what I thought was going to be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the $1.7 million downtown Ansonia Senior Center.

The center is housed in the same building as the Ansonia Police Department at 65 Main St., the former Farrel Corp. headquarters.

When a friend and I walked into the center's community room we were surprised to see it was packed with more than 200 seniors from throughout the Valley anxious to check out the new site.

After the ribbon cutting and remarks by Mayor David S. Cassetti, Corporation Counsel John Marini, Economic Development Director Sheila O'Malley and others, a lunch was served -  sandwiches and cupcakes frosted in "Charger Blue."

It was a festive afternoon! A DJ and two dynamic dancers provided the spark to get people moving thanks to Charles Rosenay and his Liverpool Productions Entertainment.

Congratulations to all who worked diligently to make the beautiful new facility a reality.

And big thanks goes to the incoming eighth graders from Assumption School pictured below who helped out in the kitchen during the event.
