Ansonia man, 28, faces multiple drug charges

ANSONIA - Ansonia Police today executed a search warrant on Howard Avenue which was the result of an investigation into the distribution of narcotics. 
Police recovered a large quantity of drugs and cash. Seized were 448 grams of cocaine, 186 grams of crack, 10 grams of Fentanyl, and $100,000 in cash, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release.
Daqwon Graham, 28, of Ansonia was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics within 200 feet of a school, possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 200 feet of a school, police said.
Graham posted a $150,000 bond and will be arraigned April 12 at Derby Superior Court.

The DEA New Haven Task Force assisted in the investigation with the New Haven Police Department Criminal Intelligence Unit & Shooting Task Force and Connecticut State Police Violent Crime Task Force.

The DEA New Haven Task Force includes personnel from the DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, Connecticut State Police, New Haven, Waterbury, East Haven, Branford, West Haven, Ansonia, Meriden, Naugatuck, and Shelton Police Departments.

Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center in Derby seeks adults for study



Help Us Crack the Health Benefits of Eggs

DERBY - The Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center at Griffin Hospital is looking for adults to join a study comparing how the DASH diet, with or without eggs, affects heart health. 

The DASH diet features fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, and low-fat dairy products. It’s recommended by the American Heart Association for people at risk for cardiovascular disease.

You could qualify for the study if you:
• Are 18 years or older
• If a woman, must not currently be on hormone replacement therapy
• Have high blood cholesterol, but are not on any medication to control it

Volunteer roles during the study:
• Follow the DASH diet for 28 weeks
• During 8 of these weeks, you will also eat 2 eggs per day
• Visit Griffin Hospital in Derby 5 times for study assessments

Benefits of being in this study:
• Free nutrition guidance to follow the DASH diet
• Free 8-week supply of eggs
• Free bloodwork and blood vessel ultrasound tests
• Results provided to you upon request
• $600 payment over the course of the study

Forage for wild edibles in Ansonia Nature Center program



ANSONIA - Join Ranger Dawn at 2 p.m. May 13 at the Ansonia Nature Center for an epic foraging adventure. 

Together we will explore the wilds of the Nature Center’s property to harvest and learn about wild edible plants. 

Backyards, vacant lots, woodlands, and open fields support tons of food and medicines for the natural collector! We’ll taste and smell some along the way and have a small feast when we return from our hike.
