ANSONIA - Police today reported that Erik Kycia, 36, of Ansonia, was arrested Jan. 24 for his involvement in the commercial burglary of Fuel First, 575 Main St. on Nov. 2, 2022.
This was the second arrest in the investigation, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release.
On Dec. 11 Michael Barton, 40, of Ansonia, was arrested for his part in the burglary.
Both Kycia and Barton were arrested after an investigation by the Patrol Division and Detective Bureau.
The burglary of Fuel First happened at about 4:50 a.m., Lynch said.
The front window to the store was broken, a gaming machine was broken into and several hundred dollars in cash was stolen.
Video evidence from the store showed one male breaking the window and entering the store while another person drives a dark-colored Chevy SUV to and from the scene.
Kycia was developed as a suspect when he called police several hours after the burglary to make a complaint. The responding officers recognized Kycia from the video of the burglary and the person he complained about was Michael Barton. When the officers contacted Barton, they located the dark-colored Chevy seen in the video.
Kycia was charged with burglary third degree, conspiracy to commit burglary third degree, criminal mischief first degree, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief first degree, larceny sixth degree, and conspiracy to commit larceny sixth degree.
He posted a $10,000 bond for this incident. Lynch said Kycia was also arrested for two failure to appear warrants where he posted $7,500 bonds on each.
Kycia’s next court date is Feb. 8, 2023 at Derby Superior Court.
Barton was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary third degree, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief first degree, and conspiracy to commit larceny sixth degree.
Barton is currently incarcerated and his next court date will be a remote hearing at Derby Superior Court on Feb. 8, 2023.
