Derby Public Library offers Kritter Kits Take & Make crafts for Christmas in July


DERBY - Derby Public Library offers Kritter Kits - Take & Make Series for ages 3-10 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. July 8.
You better not pout, you better not cry, 'cause it’s Christmas in July!
Our weekly Kritter Kits will be stuffed with winter-themed activities and crafts to bring you holiday cheer!
This week is a fun, educational S.T.E.M. activity called the Melting Snowman Experiment narrated by our own "Miss Carmela."
The kits will be available through vestibule pickup. The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St.

Kids can read to Molly Saturday outdoors at Derby Public Library

DERBY - Children ages 3-11 are welcome to join the popular B.A.R.K. (Be A Reading Kid) program from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Derby Public Library where Molly is following in her brother Ollie’s “paw steps.”

This is a great opportunity for beginner or reluctant readers - as well as experienced readers - to build confidence, enhance literary skills achieved during the school year, and develop a love of reading.

Children will be given a 10-minute time slot to read and may select a book from home, or one they have already checked out from, or is provided by, the library, to share with her for the program.

The program will be held outside and participants are requested to follow CDC guidelines. 

The Library is at 313 Elizabeth St. It WILL NOT be open to the public. Please plan accordingly.

AAA donates $2,500 to Griffin Hospital's SafeKids' child safety seat program

DERBY - As part of its ongoing charitable giving efforts throughout its territory of New Haven, Litchfield, and Fairfield Counties, AAA Northeast presented Griffin Hospital’s Safe Kids Greater Naugatuck Valley Coalition with a $2,500 donation for the purchase of child passenger safety seats.


The donation is through the AAA Employee Charitable Giving Foundation which awards gifts to nonprofit agencies in the Connecticut and Rhode Island area each year that go above and beyond to help their community. 

Special attention is given to those underserved areas and children.

The Coalition was chosen for its work in providing needed child car and booster seat for underserved populations in the area. 

Safe Kids also conducts monthly clinics at Griffin to educate parents on the proper installation of car seats and when necessary, provides free car seats to qualified recipients.

"The Derby-Shelton Fireworks have officially been postponed to Thursday July 8, 2021. The new rain date is Friday July 9, 2021.


"A reminder that Derby City Hall and offices will be closed on Monday July 5, 2021 in observance of Independence Day.

"There will be trash and recycling pick-up on Monday July 5, 2021 and there is no delay in pickup during the week of July 5, 2021.

"The Transfer Station will be open on Monday July 5, 2021.

"Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!"


Valley Shakespeare Festival to perform 'The Adventures of Pericles'

A storm at sea brings love into the life of Pericles, Prince of Tyre; another snatches it away. 
Many years must pass before fate guides the wandering hero to a poignant reunion with the family he thought he had lost forever.
