'Turnback Tuesday' highlights footwear store in downtown Derby

Turnback Tuesday visits another business on Main Street, Derby.

The B. McDermott Boots & Shoes was located at 198 Main St.

Bernard McDermott was a maker, dealer, and repairer of footwear, starting his business approximately in 1875 until closing the doors in 1900. The Stage Coach in the foreground would run from Birmingham to New Haven. The second picture is an example of the shoe style, an advertisement from the local Derby newspaper in 1899.

This photo was taken by John W. Storrs.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
