Huntington Branch Library to host Animal Crossing for tweens, teens

SHELTON - Tweens and teens can join Miss Jessica at 2:45 p.m. Thursday for an hour of Animal Crossing where they can fish, dive for sea creatures, catch bugs, trade DIYS and items, and more!

Tweens/teens MUST have a Nintendo Switch, a copy of the game Animal Crossing, and an active internet connection on their Nintendo Switch to participate.

An email address is required to register.

A Zoom link and password will be emailed to each participant prior to the start of the program.

'Turnback Tuesday' features Derby's 300th birthday celebration

Turnback Tuesday remembers the 300th celebration of Derby in 1975.

We [at Derby Public Library] are highlighting some of the buttons used during the celebration which started May 31 and ran through June 8, 1975.

The “Derby” Hat was the logo for the 300th as seen here on the wooden nickel. Two different buttons for the Miss Celebration Belle and the button for the Junior Grade of the Brother of the Brush.

You can see the theme of these buttons with Derby colors of red and white.

*Remember* the Library is looking for memorabilia such as these to add to our collection. Please keep "Hunting for History" so we can preserve the incredible story of Derby.

Derby Historical Society to host virtual 'Day in 1762' program for 5th graders

ANSONIA  - The Derby Historical Society has announced its award-winning field trip, “A Day in 1762,” will be presented virtually for the first time in 40 years.

Students travel to colonial Derby for an insider’s look into the life of young David Humphreys, who later in life became aide-de-camp to George Washington during the Revolutionary War. 

This “Living History” experience takes place at the home of General David Humphreys, 37 Elm St., and is led by docents in period attire. There will be one-hour time slots available in March and April. 

Discussion about David’s life and achievements during the American Revolution and beyond are also part of this wonderful program. 

Fifth grade classes in the Valley towns of Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton are invited to attend the spring 2021 session free of charge.

Executive Director Daniel L. Bosques said in a written statement, “Keeping young minds rooted in our local past means so much to us that we have developed a state of the art virtual field trip during what has been the most difficult of years for class trips.
