Seymour Public Library to host program on Gilded Age from the Grounded Goodwife

The Grounded Goodwife

SEYMOUR - Join Ehris and Velya, the Grounded Goodwife duo, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9 for a very interesting Zoom presentation hosted by Seymour Public Library.

DUE TO CONTENT SUITABLE FOR AGES18+, NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART!
The Not-So-Golden Life of the Gilded Age Wife is herstory unsanitized.
Herstory helps us understand each other by honoring our foremothers’ journeys.
This presentation isn’t about bustles or butlers – audiences will laugh and grimace about the little-known issues faced by women of America’s Gilded Age. Perhaps women need to be reminded of how far we’ve come to see how far we still can go.

DERBY - The Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers, at 300 Seymour Ave. Suite 206, is accepting applications for the spring semester of its Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant programs.

The accelerated CNA course offers students an affordable and condensed schedule.

There will be an evening semester starting March 15 with classes Monday through Thursday from 5-9 p.m.

Course content includes infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communications, body mechanics, moving and positioning residents, personal care skills, nutrition, measuring vital signs, and restorative care.

Students will practice skills prior to their clinical experience. The program’s clinical experience will be at Griffin Hospital from 5-10 p.m. for evening hours, totaling 40 hours.

After successfully completing the course and clinical experience, students will be qualified to take the certification exam for a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut.

The CNA course tuition fee includes the course book, CPR training, and malpractice insurance coverage for the clinical rotation.

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant training program will start in April.

The program prepares students to become multi-skilled healthcare professionals that specialize in outpatient settings. Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Graduates of this program may find entry-level positions in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers and may work in general medicine or specialty practices. This program also provides the diversity of other job options in the hospital or laboratory setting.

The program runs for 28 weeks with classes five days a week from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., including 160 clinical hours at Griffin Faculty Physicians’ primary care offices and specialty offices such as gastroenterology, OB-GYN, surgical, and cardiology.

Topics covered in the program include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical procedures, aseptic techniques, minor surgical procedures, phlebotomy, electrocardiogram, pathology and law and ethics in the medical field, as well as general administrative skills including electronic health records, insurance billing and coding, formatting documents, basic accounting and patient scheduling.

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant training program is offered twice a year.

Anyone 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED may apply for admission.

The School of Allied Health Careers has partnered with Meritize to offer student loans in which applicants can enhance credit evaluation and loan options by sharing their academic profiles.

Pre-approval is available at https://apply.meritize.com.

Early application is encouraged, as space is limited.
