Recuperation journey: Friday sunset

My backyard view this evening. Looks almost the same as yesterday's sunset sky.

Recuperation journey: Summer harvest

I visited the weekly Farm Market in downtown Ansonia today and found some pretty colors provided by Gazy Brothers Farm in Oxford.

The market runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays on West Main Street.

It also features homemade jams and pies from Amski's Delights of Ansonia, and breads and fresh mozzarella from Beldotti Bakery in Stamford.

Check out the market next Friday. You won't be disappointed!

Klarides-Ditria reminds constituents of sales tax-free week

Dear Neighbors,

With our normal routines disrupted by the virus, I want to remind you to take advantage of the upcoming “Tax Free Week” which runs from Sunday, August 16 through Saturday, August 22.

Last year, I was part of a contingent of legislators who successfully fought back against attempts by the governor to end the weekly tax break event which benefits so many families.

This one-week event eliminates Connecticut’s 6.35 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item. Since sales tax is calculated after the use of any coupons or discounts, if the final price per item is less than $100, the sale is exempt from taxes. Clothing or footwear under $100 put on layaway is also tax-free.

Tax Free Week was first enacted in 2000 and applies to most clothing and footwear purchases intended for everyday use.

Goods not covered under the program include, but are not limited to clothing or footwear specifically designed for athletic activities, such as football cleats, specialty boots for fishing, hiking, skiing, and other activities, as well as wet suits, helmets and headbands, etc., and accessories such as jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, etc.

Please consult with your local retailer, or the Department of Revenue Services for a list of qualifying and non-qualifying items.

Sincerely,
