Town Clerk announces cancellation of Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade

Sharing message from Derby Town/City Clerk Marc J. Garofalo:
"It is with deep sadness and profound regret that I inform you that this office has learned that the beloved Derby Shelton Memorial Day Parade has been cancelled this year due to the public health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We mourn the cancellation of this great and solemn remembrance of those who gave the supreme sacrifice to our Country while in its service.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Organizers of the Parade, the unsung stewards of maintaining this great tradition, the Parade participants who show their respect by marching year after year, and the Parade spectators who show their Valley, Connecticut and American pride by lining the streets of both downtowns that make for a complete community celebration of the sacrifices of war.

"Let us take time on May 25, 2020 at 9 a.m. to remember the gift that we have in our annual Memorial Day Parade and yearn for its return next year.  It is the unofficial start of Summer, the unofficial end of the academic year, and an annual renewal of our salute to the fallen heroes of this great land.  May they rest in Peace."
