Recuperation journey: Sunset stripe


This is all I caught of Monday's sunset from my backyard view - a pretty pink pastel stripe near the horizon.

DERBY -  Area businesses and community groups are invited to support The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital 11th Annual 5K Walk/Run set for Sept. 28.

This community-based event has drawn thousands of participants and raised more than $490,000 in its 10-year history. 
The course winds through the streets of Derby and Ansonia near the Center for Cancer Care at 350 Seymour Ave., appealing to runners and walkers from throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley and surrounding towns.

Proceeds from the event support area cancer survivors during their treatment by providing financial assistance for a variety needs, including housing, clothing and grocery bills, transportation, wigs, and complementary medical services (massage, acupuncture, etc.).

Sponsorship opportunities include signage at the event, logos on the event promotional materials and T-shirts, recognition from the stage, and the opportunity to have a table to distribute products at the event.

Derby Neck Library to host project about backyard birds


DERBY - Children ages 7-10 are invited to join Derby Neck Library's four-session summer project, ALL ABOUT BACKYARD BIRDS.
Over the course of four meetings participants will learn about backyard birds as they enjoy crafts involving up to three bird feeders. 

Make space on your calendars. 
The group will meet at 2 p.m. June 30, July 14 and 28, and finish up on Aug. 11.
