Recuperation journey: Fun with wildlife

Peanut shell in shrub; photo taken Saturday evening.

This is a long story that has been going on for a while around here. One of our neighbors has been putting peanuts out for our local wildlife.

The squirrels and blue jays are particularly happy about that.
They seem to be playing a game with whole peanuts and empty shells. We find them everywhere in the yard.
I think they may be hiding them from each other.
This morning Ralph saw a blue jay hide a peanut in the shrub (pictured above). The blue jay knows where it is, but I'm pretty sure the squirrels are clueless.

Turns out I wrote about this exactly five months ago! Ralph just reminded me of that fact, and here's the link.

I'm easily amused, and thought it would be fun to again share our ongoing peanut saga.

James H. Wilkins Lodge in Ansonia collecting school supplies

ANSONIA - Sheba Chapter #1 and James H. Wilkins Lodge #9 are holding their annual Back 2 School Supplies Drive through Aug. 23.

This project was started in 2005 by Gregory Gatison of James H. Wilkins Lodge as a way to address a need for school supplies for children attending elementary and middle schools in the Valley.

Ansonia Middle, Derby Middle, Bradley, and Irving Schools will benefit this year.
Community support is sought, especially from Derby and Ansonia residents.

Three-ring binders, notebook paper, and one-subject notebooks are in high demand. The Lodge has a registry at Target in Ansonia in the Lodge's name.
Anyone can buy a gift from Target and we will pick it up.
Financial donations may be made to: Craftsmen Club, P.O. Box 36, Ansonia, 06401.

For information call 203-685-0937 or 203-275-8706.

This is a press release from Lodge member Gregory Gatison.
