Learn animal tracking, create crafts, have fun in snow at Ansonia Nature Center
ANSONIA - The Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center, 10 Deerfield Road, has scheduled many fun activities in February.
NATURE’S CHILD: Groundhogs – Feb. 5, 10 a.m.

If groundhogs in Connecticut could talk, they’d ask why people are waking up their relative in Pennsylvania! Learn about their sleeping habits and hear a short story, make a craft, and walk to their den site.
TUITION: $6 per child ($4 for family-level FANCI members and Ansonia residents). Adults come for free. Please pre-register for this class for preschoolers and their adults.

SNOWSHOE SUNDAY: Animal Tracking – Feb. 7, 1 p.m.
Become an animal detective! Learn to look for clues in nature and uncover some fascinating signs that our local wildlife left behind. Dress for cold weather and bring your snowshoes too. Free; please register.
HEATHER’S KORNER SEWING CLASSES: Sewing a Fox Pillow (Class 2) - Feb. 7, 2 p.m.
These sewing classes are for children 7–10 years old accompanied by an adult. In today’s class, each child will sew a fox pillow. FEE: $15. Materials are included. Please pre-register, as space is limited.
TALKING FEATHER WORKSHOP – Feb. 13, 2 p.m.
In American Indian culture, the Talking Feather was and is still used. During a ceremony, or a gathering of two or more people for a discussion, its use ensures the utmost respect. The feather is passed from one person to the next, allowing the person who holds it the privilege of speaking. Join Ranger Dan in constructing this item that can be incorporated into your family’s tradition.

PET LOSS GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP – Feb. 14, 11 a.m.
ECO-ART VALENTINE WORKSHOP – Feb. 14, noon.
Create gifts for your loved ones out of recycled magazines. Transform your old magazines into new valentine storage baskets. This will be a fun day to share with your family and friends! Call to register for this free program. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Looking for a fun activity for the children this Presidents’ Day? Come and learn about the Nature Center’s resident animals.
The staff will talk about the different types of mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds we have on display. We will also teach the children how to touch and handle some of these soft, scaly and feathered friends. Free. Please pre-register.

FUN IN THE SNOW – Feb. 16, 11 a.m.
What a great place to enjoy winter! The Nature Center has awesome hills for sled riding, as well as plenty of space for making a snow animal and even building a snow fort or two. Enjoy hot cocoa around our outdoor fireplace too! Dress for the weather—hats, gloves, and snow pants and boots are a must. Pre-register for this free program.

Tech Time sessions slated at Derby Public Library
DERBY - The Derby Public Library, 313 Elizabeth St., continues to offer monthly Tech Time sessions.
No registration is needed.

Every third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and every third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. a staff member will be on hand to answer all your tech-related questions and concerns.
Whether you are having trouble downloading e-books,
searching databases, completing on-line job applications,
scanning/sending documents and photos, etc., your problems will be addressed.
The next sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 and at 10 a.m. Jan. 21.
No registration is needed.

Fun activity seen as therapeutic for grown-ups
The coloring craze continues to grow in popularity.
And two libraries in the Valley are providing a place for adults to enjoy the creative activity.
In Ansonia:
Think coloring is just for kids? Think again!
The Ansonia Library will be hosting “Crayons for Grown-Ups” at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
Coloring has recently been touted as the newest stress reliever for adults. Six of the top 20 books on Amazon.com right now are “adult" coloring books.
The books used have more intricate designs and patterns than those designed for children.
Materials and refreshments will be provided.
Come have a fun evening and see what it’s all about!

On the first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m., adults are invited to come and join the coloring craze - it’s not just for kids any more!
The February session will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1.
Coloring sheets, along with crayons and colored pencils, are provided but you are also welcome to bring your own materials.
This simple activity provides social, mental health, and creative benefits. Relaxing music and light snacks are included.
No specific skills or preparation needed, just a desire to relax and de-stress.
