Derby Library to host reading club, continue programs in summer
DERBY - The Derby Public Library will once again run a Summer Reading Club for adults 18 and over.
Participants will be invited to Escape the Ordinary this year.
The club will begin on June 22 and run through Aug. 15.
As participants read books of their choice, they will be asked to anonymously complete a very brief review
form to share with fellow readers.
New this year, readers will have the option of doing
this either online by using LitKeeper, or the traditional written way as in past years.
These reviews will be posted and shared. Readers will receive a participation prize after they submit their first review.
Weekly raffles will be held for all readers sharing for each particular week
All participants will be invited to a final summer celebration at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17.
Ongoing programs such as Wednesday Movie, Tech Times, Local History Sessions, and Sports Talks will continue throughout the summer, along with many other special programs offering an Escape from the Ordinary.

SHELTON - The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley will hold its 40th Annual Doc Bednar Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast May 25, before, during, and after the Memorial Day parade.
Held in the Walgreens Pharmacy parking lot at the corner of Center Street, all-you-can-eat, fluffy buttermilk pancakes will be served from 7-11 a.m.
Donations are $5 per person, or $4 per person for children 12 and younger.

Local history, sports in spotlight at Derby Library
DERBY - The Derby Public Library holds weekly Local History Information Sessions on
Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesdays.
Along with offering research assistance, the Library’s Local History Coordinator also offers information on monthly highlighted topics.
June’s topic will be Derby Graduates.
Visitors will be able to reminisce about days gone by while viewing photographs and yearbooks of past Derby High School graduates.
Yearbooks going back to 1938 will be available.

figures, major area events, and more.
Sports Talks
The Derby Public Library is now in its 10th season of Sports Talks. These
informal sessions are held every Thursday morning at 10:00 AM throughout the baseball
season.
They are facilitated by radio talk show host, author, and Major League Baseball

Rules Consultant, Rich Marazzi. Each session includes trivia contests, videos, lively
conversation and more.
