Forecast spurs Derby mayor to order early closings

DERBY - Mayor Anita Dugatto this afternoon announced early closings for city buildings Wednesday due to the forecast of snow.

A snowy forecast has forced Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race officials to change the route. 
The 13th anniversary event starts at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Homestead museum in Derby opens Friday for season

Garden clubs decorate home for holidays
DERBY - This year's decorations at the Osborne Homestead Museum feature the theme,"Holiday at the Symphony."

Each November area garden clubs follow a theme and skillfully decorate the house that belonged to Frances Osborne Kellogg, a businesswoman, conservationist, civic leader, and philanthropist. 

She died at age 80 in 1956.

Museum holiday hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays from Nov. 28 to Dec. 20.

Holiday Twilight Tours will be held Fridays from 4-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, 12, and 19.

The museum at 500 Hawthorne Ave. is operated by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Groups of more than eight people are asked to call 203-734-2513 to reserve a tour date and time.

Donations for museum tours are gratefully accepted.


Historical society hears talk about excavation in Derby


Two of Connecticut's black governors in the 1800s were from Derby. The Derby Historical Society's 24th Annual Appeal Thanksgiving Reception Monday featured a presentation about the black governors.
